Back pack action.

2.11.10 School council met today. One of our jobs was to review the progress of the back pack appeal. Mrs Rees showed us an example of a prepared backpack.
We discussed how we could promote the appeal. We decided to make a display in the entrance hall and prepare posters to remind people of this important project.
Holleigh and Jacques suggested we wrote to local shops to see if they would donate items for us to include in our packs.

Holleigh takes the Chair!

School council meeting 14.10.10.
Holliegh took the chair and led us all in our meeting.
We discussed tomorrows open day and agreed to work in pairs to welcome and show visitors around the school.
We then discussed the new initiative suggested  by the Blandford school to provide backpacks full of school essentials to children in places like Malawi and Liberia. This will help the poorest children to get a primary education that may otherwise be denied them..   More information on this will follow.
We voted to support this chaity this year instead of the usual shoebox appeal.

Planning stalls for barbecue night.

We met today to discuss each classes contribution to entertainment and fund raising for the school barbecue.
We discussed prices and prizes, activities and rules.
We decided year 6 would create a target hitting challenge.
Year 5 would organise sponge throwing [volunteers appreciated!],
Year 4, speed stacking,
Year 3 Estimate the number of sweets in a jar.
Year 2 Kicking at the cross bar [for future England players!]
Year 1 treasure hunt
YR Lucky dip.
We agreed we would organise our classes into making posters and working out a rota for manning the stalls.
It's going to be a great evening!

Spending our vouchers.

Mr Lavis asked School Council to choose resources to support the school in its quest to be as Eco friendly as we can be! We had 12,000 tesco vouchers to spend.
We spent  the meeting looking through the catalogue and selecting items we thought would be particularly good for our school.
The main idea was that we should be recycling water to use in our growing areas. We chose water butts and all the accessories, one for each key stage.
Then we selected a shelter for KS1 children to enable them to work outside safe from the sun, and kneeling mats for KS2 children for sitting out and gardening.

Chloe and Charlotte totalled up the points and we were just right!

We presented our choices to Mrs Gibson and she approved them.

April Action

Last month's big task was reviewing the progress of RRS  at our school. You can see our thoughts and plans on the RRS blog.
The new term brings lots to think about and prepare for. Mrs Gibson is hoping to organise a masterchef competition and is looking for sponsors in the local community to help fund the event and raise money for new cooking equipment for school. We are going to collect ideas and create a list of people and companies we can write too. If you know anyone who would be interested please contact Mrs. Gibson or School council via the office. Thanks.

We are also working on producing a booklet or 'starter pack' to give to new children. This would be a child's guide to the school and would include everything we think someone would need to know. It is hoped it will enthuse and inspire!
Again your ideas would be much appreciated. Just talk to your class councillors.

Bishop Graham visits our school.

On 4th February we were honoured to be visited by Bishop Graham.

School council  welcomed him to our school.

We assisted by lighting the candle and leading the school prayer.
His assembly was wonderful because he answered any questions we wanted to ask!

Then we took him on a tour of the school
We hope we didn't tire him out!

Spring term School Council

Hi Welcome to the new Spring Term School Council.

In our first meeting we discussed how we could improve behaviour at lunchtimes. We decided that our lunchtime charter needed to be made more colourful and easier to understand for younger children. We decided it would be a good idea if each class could take a right and illustrate the responsibilities that go with it so it could be easily seen and understood by everyone.
We presented our idea to the school in our assembly.
