Agenda

• Update on the collection for Nepal

School council representatives have been asked to bring the following important issues to the meeting.

• Parking
• Dens

• Collection for Nepal. The final amount raised by the trackathon for Nepal was more than £1,600! This money was sent straight to the Nepal Emergancy fund and is now helping people to rebuild their lives. Well done to everyone involved, you have made a huge difference to the lives of people in need.

• Parking.   Several school council representatives have been approached as children are very concerned at the manner in which cars are being parked in and around the school at the beginning and end of the school day. Members reported having seen cars parked on the yellow lines and even on the roundabout!

Quite rightly, children are worried for their safety in crossing the roads at these time. Council also heard that children who wanted to walk to school do not feel safe to do so, with drivers behaving irresponsibly around the school entrances.
Action
After much heated discussion, school council have agreed to put up signs to remind drivers to consider the safety of the children whilst parking. A simple logo will be designed that can also be put into the newsletter. It was also felt that someone with authority from the school or police should be involved in policing the area.

• Dens   School council members felt that the dens are still an area where behaviour is poor. Many felt that duty staff were often distracted by children needing help and then others take advantage by going into the dens.

Action
Many ideas were discussed. One suggestion to take forward to next year was that staff could be supported by a group of responsible children, possibly peer mediators.
A more immediate solution, however, was that the ares should be separated off more securely as the ribbons are too easily ignored. Again signs will be made to remind children of the rules (Emily and Lois to do)

A.O.B.
Football.- A request was made that football could be allowed again in the astro turf.
This was discussed and Council agreed that this part of the summer term should be for tennis, as it is an opportunity for non football lovers to enjoy their sport. It was also noted that tennis is much less dominated by the boys. It was suggested, however, that maybe as everyone is on the field a ball could be used on the playground. Mrs. Rees will look into the safety of this.

End of term celebrations
A request was made for a whole school picnic. It was agreed, however, that the beech trip is in fact a whole school picnic and that this is a truly special end of term celebration. Any classes wishing to do more than this can discuss with their own teacher.

Trackathon Success!

School council would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the children and their sponsors for the amazing response to our challenge to raise money for Nepal.
So far we have raised over a thousand pounds, which has gone straight to the disaster fund, and there is still money coming in!

Minutes of meeting 30.4.15

Working together to make a difference.

An emergency meeting was called today to discuss the earthquake crisis in Nepal.

Jodie chaired the meeting in the absence of Henry.

Most children had heard of the earthquake and the terrible conditions that the people in Nepal are living in at the moment. We, the school council, felt strongly that we would like to raise money to help provide emergency care for these people.
Several fund raising strategies were discussed but we decided on a sponsored run around the running track. After some discussion, we decided YR should try for 2 laps, KS1, 4 laps, and KS2,  6 laps.
The organisation of this event was discussed and a letter to parents and carers, drafted.
We also designed a sponsor sheet for children to take home and collect sponsors.
It was agreed that each class would organise their own event during the week beginning 14.5.15.
Mrs. Rees thanked everyone for their enthusiasm and quick thinking.

Spending the enterprise fair money!

We achieved an amazing profit of £333.00 at the enterprise fair! This gives us about £165 for each key stage.
We broused the catalogues for trikes and scooters first. Unfortunately, the trikes cost £199 each and so were too expensive. Then we spotted a special offer of four scooters for the price of three, at a total of £149.97. This looked like a good buy!
The goal posts requested by Key Stage 2 were a bit trickier. Altrhough Henry found some at £88.95 we decided we would take expert advice on this before we go any further.

Welcome to our new members from Reception class.
Request for consideration of trikes from Mrs. Harris.

We discussed if we felt the school should pay out for new bikes and trikes.
A vote was held with a clear divide. KS1 felt yes KS2 said no!

Chair Henry suggested that if we could raise some money that half could be spent replacing bikes and trikes and half could be spent on new balls and goals for KS2. This was agreed.

We discussed possible ways of making money.

• cake sale
• unwanted toy sale
• Enterprise week profits.

Any other business.
Mrs.Rees reported back that teachers agreed an outside activity for golden time would be arranged for the summer term.
Year 3 reps had been asked if it would be possible for the summer house to have a coat of paint.....also one for the Spring, we think.

Ideas for Academy activities.


Mrs. Cooper asked to approach School Council. She explained the role of ELSA at school and asked if school council would agree to requesting some extra funding from Friends of School. When asked what exactly was needed, Mrs Cooper explained that the children attending ELSA would really benefit from some new games and some cuddly blankets.
Action
School Council voted unanimously to support Mrs.Cooper's request and decided to request a sum of £40.00. Jodie and Amelie volunteered to compose a letter to F.O.S.

New projects.

Mrs. Rees and Scool council have been concerned that we have not been able to meet regularaly due to other commitments. After discussion with Mrs. Brown it was decided that we will make sure we have our fortnightly meetings at 2.30 on Tuesdays. Mrs. Brown kindly agreed to take Y4 library session so we can meet. Thank you Mrs. Brown!

We reviewed the progress we have made, as a school, with our fundraising for charity this term.

Jeans for Genes - An amazing £239.00!
A large collecxtion for Children in Need.
The Poppy Appeal. Thankyou Peter for all your hard work and the amazing wreath.
Shoe boxes. This has been very successful with the new approach. A huge variety of items were brought in and a group of very kind parents spent the morning of November 10th sorting and wrapping. Thank you all....The boxes look amazing!

New projects. Now we are part of the B.E.T. Academy we will be exploring ways we can link up with Spetisbury and ArchBishop Wake Schools to develop our bond and move forward together.
Action. School Council will collect ideas from classes about activities they would enjoy sharing with the other schools.

Matters Arising
Dominic has been asked by Year 3 to request an outside activity in golden time.
Maybe we could talk nicely to Mr.Thomas!
KS 2 Girls have concerns that one of the toilets has not been locking properly leaving three classes of girls with only one toilet!
There was also a request for more soap!   Mrs. Rees will pass this on to Mrs. Milner.
