Shoeboxes arrived in time for Christmas!!

Today we had an exciting email. The shoeboxes we sent had arrived at their destination in time for Christmas and in time to make a big difference to some childrens lives. Our shoeboxes went to Belarus, in Eastern Europe.

Here is a link that says "Thank you from Belarus" on the Operation Christmas Child website.

·        Network plans for the talent show.

Schools Network Meeting.

On Thursday 6th October the school councils network will be holding their first meeting to discuss plans for each school to hold their own talent show with the finalists going through to a network final before Christmas.

Action
Mrs. Rees, Katie and Harry will attend.

Matters Arising.

Yr  6. Jordan raised the question, ‘Could more space be made available for football at playtimes?’
School council discussed the question and decided that as KS2 have 2 astro slots a week and KS1 one each that taking the field up with football as well would be unfair. The vote was 9 to 1. Sorry Jordan!

Yr5. Phoebe had been asked to appeal for another lunchbox trolley as sharing with year 4 causes problems at lunchtime and later when children return for their boxes.

We will consult Mr Lavis on this one!

Yr4 Were concerned with behaviour around the summer house. Apparently the stone slab has been lifted and is causing problems.

School council felt a member of staff needs to be close by at playtimes.
Mrs. Rees thought Mr Bannister might be able to embed the slab a little deeper.

Yr 3 Jamie and Molly were concerned about people rolling and sliding on the hill and getting muddy.

They offered to make a sign to remind children not to do this.

Yr2 Millie and Jamie had been asked to mention the brambles on the nature trail which have been hurting children and have particularly been a problem in cross country.

We will ask the groundsman to look into trimming these back.
Good point yr 2!

Yr2 Had also been asked by Joshua if he could have somewhere safe to leave his bike if he cycled to school with his mum.

We decided to consult Mr Lavis on this one as well!

Chair Katie closed the meeting and thanked everyone for coming.

Meeting 6.7.11

School council have been collecting children's opinions and ideas about improving behaciour at the local park.
Each class felt strongly that we should all be involved in improving the behaviour at the park. The following suggestions were made.
  • Children under 7 should have a grown up with them.
  • Areas should be split with appropriate age restrictions.
  • Areas for older children should have appropriate equipment and full sized goals.
  • Funds need to be raised for extra litter bins and a toilet.
  • A volunteer or paid park keeper.
  • A colourful Park charter explaining the Rights and Responsibilities of anyone using the park.
  • Involvement of Community police officers.
  • CCTV.
School council will be meeting with Luke Goddard [PCSO] this week to discuss proposals.
For more information see School Council minutes.

Meeting 27.4.11

School council met today and welcomed two new members from Reception. It was lovely to have Sophie and Archie and so important that we have the views and ideas of our very youngest chioldren.
Today Holleigh fed back on the Network meeting. We added our ideas to those already suggested about opportunities to link up with other network schools for activities.
We thought the following ideas should be considered

• Whole network barbecue, hosted by BSM.

• Sports and activities day with each school providing an activity.eg orienteering, or teambuilding games.

• Specialist activities hosted by the Blandford School e.g. cooking, band, art.

• Year groups trips to Moors Valley or the beach.

• We all agreed a Network Talent show would be fun, with each school contributing their favourite acts and the final to be held at TBS.

For more cdetails see minutes of the meeting.

Wednesday 30 March 2011

An exciting day for School council.

Today School Council took part in the very important process of interviewing candidates for the position of Acting Deputy Head while Mrs. Harris has her baby.
We saw three candidates and asked them questions about themselves, their teaching career, their approach to managing behaviour and their reasons for wanting to join our school. We really enjoyed talking to all the candidates and felt each had strengths and lots to offer our school. We finished our discussions by asking if they thought they had a sense of humour and what was their favourite joke! We learnt a lot from that one!

Later Emma and Leah as our Rights Respecting Representative attended the Network School Council meeting at ABW  with Mrs, Rees. Today we added Responsibilities to our Blandford community charter. We also discussed opportunities for the network primary schools to join together to share resources and activities. We came up with some great ideas like a whole network fair, a huge talent competition, sports, art, dance, music events or even a giant picnic.......... Watch this space!

A welcome to all new pupils

There have been lots of new children starting at our school recently. Mr Lavis would like us to create a welcome booklet tro give to new children. We thought this was a great idea and had lots of ideas about what children really need to know aboiut a new school from a child's perspective like where the toilets are and what to choose for golden time!
We made a list of all the things we thought should be included and sorted out who would be responsible for each part. See minutes for more infortmation.

New Year!

School Council had our first meeting of 2011 this week. We invited the RRS representatives as our main job was to create a whole school charter. This needs to be similar in style to our class charters which work so well but focussing on the values we feel most important for the character and development of our school.
Holleigh and Oliver will take this Charter to present to the Mayor at the next network meeting to show her hao RRS in action.
